SIX WORD SATURDAY

"Not much faith in astrological forecast."

Unlike some people who won't leave the house without first
checking what the stars predict for them,
I don't put much faith in astrological forecast.
Still I like to read them just for fun and while most are ridiculous,
I sometimes come across one worthy of being
of a fridge magnet.

For example, a recent horoscope of mine read;

"Be weary of people who know the price of everything but the value of nothing."

But the best by far was Hubby's horoscope one day last winter ;

"You have two ears and one mouth.
Perhaps you should use then in that proportion and listen twice as much as you talk."

This one is so fitting for Hubby that I can almost put aside
my skepticism of astrology and become a true follower.
Needless to say this one made it to my fridge
and I do not hesitate to point it out to Hubby
whenever the need arises.

HAD IT... LOST IT...WANT IT BACK!

Jamie's question this week for Wish Casting Wednesday is;

"What do you wish to experience?"
I would like to experience just a smidgen of the rush...the euphoria that some people claim they get from running or working out. I'm not asking for anything orgasmic here...just a warm, total body feeling of "umm...this is good"...sort of the feeling you get when eating a big slice of cheese cake.

For awhile this summer, I had it (read Pumped) and I loved the feeling of accomplishment while it lasted but it was fleeting. I want to experience joy in getting out there and "doing it"once again.

SPOOKY SIX WORD SATURDAY

Because it's Halloween I'm going to take liberties and post three "Six Word Saturdays"

"Come on in...if you dare!"

"Spooky things happen when we're away."

and

"Thank God the party is over!"

These are just some of the decorations we had hanging downstairs for my daycare until strange things started to happen while we were away last Sunday.

w

Something started to set off our security systems motion detector which led to a visit by the RCMP. One of our key holders let him in and a full inspection of our house took place. (Why is it that whenever these things happen, the bed is always unmade and dirty laundry is on the floor) It was decided that the culprit was a window that hubby had forgotten to close after after opening it that morning to clear smoke that had backed up into the basement when he lit the fire (see previous post). Believing that a gust of wind must have blown some decorations the officer closed and locked the window, our key holder reset the alarm and both went on their way.

We were totally embarrassed, mortified and "worked up" when we got home and heard the message our key holder had left explaining what had taken place, but that was nothing compared to what we were feeling later that evening when, after finally calming down, we had a call from our second key holder, telling us that she too had been over at our house to let the very same RCMP officer in to do a second check of our home. Our final summation was that our air exchanger was creating enough movement in the decorations to set off the sensor. What we can't figure out is why, after hanging for a week and a half without any problem, they were suddenly setting it off. Needless to say, they have been taken down or relocated and we have not received any more visits from the RCMP.

Ahh...but there's one more...

"Strange things are still happening here!"

The party is over but there are no pictures to post as they have somehow disappeared from my memory card...but the kids had fun especially when they got to use their feet and chocolate pudding to make "monster tracks."

A LITTLE HELP FROM A FRIEND

While an in-service day means
a day off school
for the kids,
it means a very
full and "busy" day for me.

Luckily,
the after school kids
...certainly not angels by any wild stretch of the imagination
...are quite good with the little ones
and are quick to jump in and help when needed
...to spread glue
..to help a little one scrape
a lunch bowl clean,
...to pick them up when they fall,
or
as an extra set of arms to offer a hug
when my arms are already full.

Last Fridays in-service was spent
working on "pumpkin" crafts.

...and here are all the creative, happy "crafters"... minus the baby who was picked up early that day and missed the final photo shoot.

FOR A REAL TACTILE EXPERIENCE

In 19 years of carving pumpkins with my little ones,
there has never been a year that I didn't have at least one 'party poop-er'
who was squeamish about putting their hand
inside the "bowels" of the pumpkin.
This year,
digging in was no problem,
but the real fun began after the pumpkin was carved
and the kids got to play with the
pumpkin guts.

Lets dig in...

Yea! this is fun...

Feels good...

Taste good...

Want some...

Here...catch...

Happy Halloween!

THE URGE TO SERGE...FOR WISHCASTING WEDNESDAY

I used to do a lot of sewing when my girls were little, making them cute little matching dresses and overalls, until they got to the stage that they didn't think it so cute. While not a great seamstress by a long stretch, I was proficient enough to turn out a passable garment...if you didn't look too closely at the seams.

I gave my 25 year old "Brother" machine to my eldest daughter when she left home and purchased a new 'Singer" model for myself. While I could thread the old one with my eyes shut, it took a very long time for me to get accustomed to operating its replacement and I still miss my old one. It was just a basic machine with straight stitch and zig zag, but it was metal and heavy enough that you almost needed to be a weight lifter to carry it, unlike the light plastic models of today.

Over the years, my sewing has really petered off due to lack of time and interest, but lately I've been digging it out more and more to sew or make over Frenchy finds into Belly dance costumes, skirts and veils, and I find my mind drifting to the possibility buying a serger. How much easier it would be to finish the edges of flimsy silk or chiffon fabrics required for belly dance or shears for curtains? I have never used one but it can't be too hard to learn...right.

So, to answer Jamie's question for Wishcasting Wednesday:
What treat do you wish for!
I am going to put a serger on my wish list. With Christmas coming soon, perhaps it will come true.

REFLECTIONS

In such a day, in September or October, Walden is a perfect forest mirror, set round with stones as precious to my eye as if fewer or rarer. Nothing so fair, so pure, and at the same time so large, as a lake, perchance, lies on the surface of the earth. Sky water. It needs no fence. Nations come and go without defiling it. It is a mirror which no stone can crack, whose quicksilver will never wear off, whose gilding Nature continually repairs; no storms, no dust, can dim its surface ever fresh; — a mirror in which all impurity presented to it sinks, swept and dusted by the sun's hazy brush — this the light dust-cloth — which retains no breath that is breathed on it, but sends its own to float as clouds high above its surface, and be reflected in its bosom still.

Walden (first published as Walden; or, Life in the Woods)
- by Henry David Thoreau

ON LIFE

"A little while and I will be gone from among you, whither I cannot tell. From nowhere we came, and into nowhere we go. What is life? It is as a flash of a firefly in the night. It is as the breath of a buffalo in the winter time. It is as the little shadow that runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset." - Crowfoot, chief of the Blackfoot Indians (1890)

For this weeks Sunday Cirar I have chosen a quote that appeared in the obituary of an elderly neighbor who passed away this week. Hugh, was a retired school teacher, a poet, a lover of nature and a real "gentleman." He moved away a few years ago, but while he live here he would always stop to chat with my husband whenever he saw him outside while on his daily walks. He loved to talk about birds and other things of nature that he witnessed on his many walks through the orchards and woods, and they were the subject of most of his wonderful poetry.

We last saw Hugh while shopping last winter when he told us he was diagnosed with lung cancer...although he never smoked in his life.

I loved his choice of a quote because I know it reflected his love of nature and his outlook on life. I chose the above picture because it is the view he would have seen many times over throughout the years on his beloved walks.

SIX WORD SATURDAY

"Take good woman...make good fire."

An old native proverb?
I have no idea, but it is something I like to tell hubby who tends to often set off the smoke detector when ever he makes the fire...something I never do when I make it.
